Lightbox: Stranded
Blind Spot Collective
THIS EXHIBITION IS NOW CLOSED
Public Realm

Redeye’s Lightbox aims to launch the careers of some of the UK’s most promising photographers through a nine-month programme of workshops, networking, participation and presentation.

Blind Spot Collective presents Stranded, a public art project which revisits the stories of Merchant and Royal Navy seamen and WRENS (Women's Royal Naval Service personnel) who served in Battle of the Atlantic operations during the Second World War. The resulting photographic artwork examines their poignant lives, stories and shared identities as war veterans living in Britain today.

Stranded is installed outside The Mersey Planet Light Vessel, a ship located on the east side of Canning Dock. Painted bright red, the ship is accessible from the Strand and visible from the corner of
James Street and the Strand.

Blind Spot Collective are a group of semi-professional and professional photographers based in the UK. The group emerged from Redeye’s Lightbox, supported by photographer Julian Germain, and has six members: Tony Mallon, Gawaine Meechan, Rachael Wegh, Karen Woodfinden, Brian Scott and John Early.

This project is being supported using public funding by
Arts Council England.
